With Pictures: I Was In D.C.

With Pictures: I Was In D.C.

The gracious driver who took me from the airport to the hotel told me about the District's adventures and cautioned me about the clubs, but just before midnight, Saturday the 6th, I was out with the Wolf and Mo.

Someone told me it was the best city for a first-time visitor. The District of Colombia. The corridors of power. I must say that I don’t know much about this city beyond CNN, House of Cards, The Designated Survivor.. okay, that’s enough. I think you got me.

I didn’t imagine what D.C. would be like. I just wanted to get there and see what she has to offer. And oh boy! She’s a lady in the street but a freak under the sheets. Beneath the suits are sweatpants, straight jeans, black hoodies, and a couple of walking dead.

We had sex on the first date. It was go from the moment I walked out of the warm airport into the cold airs of the District.

The gracious driver who took me from the airport to the hotel told me about the District’s adventures and cautioned me about the clubs, but just before midnight, Saturday the 6th, I was out with the Wolf and Mo.

We started at the Air Restaurant, then to The Park at 14th, and got hooked up at the XoXo Hookah Lounge before the sun came up Sunday morning. This was a hell of a thrill, and yo! Afrobeats be killing it. Not a big fan of the genre because of its rudimentary lyrical contents, but it must be said that these cats are literally pulling down barriers with these joints.

Now let me tell you how I met the Wolf. So I was staying at the 901 Marriott Courtyard and went to the roof on sunset Friday to take pictures of the District’s skyline, and as it is said to be said by  Anthony Horowitz, “everything in life has a pattern, and a coincidence is simply the moment when the pattern becomes briefly visible.”

Well, it happened that The Delegate was opening their rooftop bar that evening, and being the only person walking around with a huge DLSR, I was approached by the head of marketing to make and share some pictures with her. That’s how I met the Wolf. By the way, he was not the head of marketing. Wolf was just a fine gentleman soaking some sunset sun over a glass of drink after a day’s work.

This city is highly photographed, and since I was not a tourist but a photographer, I knew I needed an approach. Be my guest.

D.C. is a very contrasting city. I have witnessed all her ends, but since I had to do ‘work work,’ I didn’t document it all. I would do a sequel. Maybe a book – Little Afro in the District, lol. I had a great time. The people I met, the scooter rides, the walks, and the ease of getting some splif made me love the city.

One of my favorite things to do in D.C. was the scooter rides. Took those babies everywhere possible. They are an absorbing and enjoyable means to go around the city.
Oh yes, I was in New York as well. Board the Flix and took that four hour journey to the home of the very tall building, the lights, and everything in between. This was more of an assimilating experience, so I didn't point my third eye at anything. We do that next time.

PS

It is time that leaders and supposed world organizations stop having breakfast and launch to pay lip service to human rights, dignity, and development. EVERY HUMAN DESERVES SHELTER. We must be aware that there can’t be cohesion, unity, and collective understanding if we continue to maintain the current state of the scale. We must STOP THE NONSENSE AND GET TO WORK. The issue of homelessness needs to be addressed, not discussed.
