Walking through the forest along the long path and listening to the stream babble as it flows creates a serene and therapeutic environment. And if you are the kind of person who pays attention to such details, you will appreciate it.

This post might be a bit late, but hey, better late than never. Hohoe has been like a home to me, and during my stay at Bishop Herman College, it was the destination to break some rules with my friends. There is a spot I should have visited but never did, so after five years, I decided to do a homecoming during the New Year holidays and visit this spot. Oh yes, I’m talking about the Wli waterfall.

The Wli fall is a leisure hot spot located in a green forest, surrounded by mountains in the border town of Wli in the Hohoe municipality, and it hosts a waterfall cascading at about 75 meters. Reaching the fall itself is a pilgrimage, a trek several meters through an evergreen forest, crossing eight bridges. One of the things that fascinated me was the fact that the path leading to the fall was along a stream.

Walking through the forest along the long path and listening to the stream babble as it flows creates a serene and therapeutic environment. And if you are the kind of person who pays attention to such details, you will appreciate it.

The fall hasn’t seen much face-lifting. It was disappointing initially, being a pro tourism fellow, but these sentiments were lost after spending some time at the place because I realized it provided that raw touch of nature. It is not to say a decent toilet, waste disposal system, and a changing room won’t help.

The fall also hosts a bat sanctuary, and it only takes some noise to get them to fill the sky. That is if they’re not doing that on their own. When they do, it’s a spectacle.

I couldn’t take a plunge because the harmattan made the water cold. I dipped my foot, and after five minutes, they felt numb. The embarrassing part, some kiddos were having a good time in it. You can’t blame me. I hate the cold.

This place is known for holiday picnics, college, and corporate fan trips, but I have discovered the best time to enjoy it is to go solo or in a small group, maybe with a few friends. The lesser the number, the better the experience.
